Spartans control Catholic; girls win at Hutchison
KNOXVILLE — Defeating rival Knoxville Catholic for the third time this season, the latest a 73-56 win in Webb’s Lee Athletic Center that ended the Irish season Saturday afternoon, Feb. 24, vaulted Ricky Norris’ Spartans (25-4) into the Division II-AA “Final Four” state tourney in Cookeville this week.
Senior Wing Drake Ingram led Webb in scoring with 24, while junior point guard Jaylen Pompey added 20.
Jason Gainey’s game-high 26 points led Catholic (16-14).
Webb’s Lady Spartans (20-8) also earned a “Final Four” trip after a 48-33 road win at No. 1 West seed Hutchison Friday, Feb. 23.
