Could it ever happen here in Town? Alleged threat
KNOXVILLE — Tragedies making major news don’t always happen “somewhere else.”
Whether or not a school shooting tragedy could ever happen in Farragut — despite the best efforts of administrators and school security — such a threat was made real, at least as told in a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report, late last week.
A KCSO unit responded to Farragut High School “regarding an electronic threat via Snapchat to shoot up the school,” a report from Officer Daniel Foster stated, adding he arrived at FHS at 9:19 a.m, Thursday, Feb. 29.
Referencing a witness in the report who said “shared pictures ... were the suspect, Amina F. Albaraqi, 18, who in the photo “was displaying a weapon with the caption: ‘I’m going to shoot up Farragut High School,’’” Foster’s report further stated. The photo had a time listed as being taken at 7:03 a.m., Feb. 29.
“There are at least two other people that she made threats against, and likely to follow through with to beat them up, per the victim,” the report also stated.
A few hours later, at 3:40 p.m., “detectives with the Major Crimes Unit responded to (a) McKinley Pointe Lane residence” and arrested Albaraqi, taking her into custody, the report stated. “... Agents from Tennessee Office of Homeland Security came by for information.”
