Commando 3-3 mark for Farragut softball; pitching was ‘outstanding’
HENDERSONVILLE — Getting rave reviews from head coach Nick Green, freshman pitcher Hallie Grace Johnson — seeing her first regular season high school softball action, which came in Middle Tennessee — teamed up with Farragut’s senior staff ace Emma MacTavish for what he labeled as “outstanding” pitching.
This came during the six-game Commando Classic at Drakes Creek Park Thursday, Sept. 14, and Saturday, Sept. 16.
In the end, the Lady Ads settled for three wins among a field of roughly 32 teams, with two games Thursday — getting rained out Friday — before ending with four time-limited games Saturday.
“I was pleased with the pitching,” the Lady Admirals skipper added, noting junior pitcher Ava Barnes was unable to play Saturday due to illness.
“Offensively, I thought we could definitely improve on that. … We felt like we had way too many strikeouts, but some of the pitching that we saw was pretty good, especially the Seigel game (a 2-1 loss Saturday),” the coach added. “Defensively we got better as we played. Offense just needs to be a little bit more consistent.”
Mt. Juliet 9 Farragut 4
Losing its first Classic game to Mt. Juliet 9-4 Thursday, “that first game was pretty rough, but we just came off spring break and essentially just got out of the cars and played,” Green said.
Junior Elsa Morrison blasted a solo home run, while Barnes was two-for-two at the plate.

MacTavish went the distance (five innings/time-limit game) Thursday, allowing just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.
Morrison connected for a home run plus a double, while junior Addison Pressley had two hits, including a double, and two RBI.

In her first career action, Johnson started and tossed the shutout in Saturday’s first game, allowing just one hit and no walks with seven strikeouts in four innings.
Offensively, Johnson helped her cause with a home run, going two-for-two at the plate. Senior Hailey Nichols stroked a two-run homer while Rilee Kate Ragan added a double and an RBI.

Laney Shrader went three-for-three at the plate with two RBI. Morrison also was three-for-three, which included a pair of double and one RBI. Nichols homered and doubled, producing four RBI. MacTavish went four innings (seven strikeouts, three hits and zero walks).
Creekwood 4 Farragut 2
Johnson allowed seven hits but just one walk with two strikeouts. Johnson’s and Morrison’s solo homers provided all the scoring.
