Scoring on a goal from 12 yards out by junior Ahadu Mengesha to pull within one tally in the 60th minute, FHS tied it on a goal from freshman Uday Sujithkumar, also about 12 yards out, with only 3:57 left in regulation play.
Though the Admirals had a flurry of chances on one possession less than three minutes into a second 10-minute “golden goal,” or sudden death, overtime, Farragut could not convert and the match ended in a 2-2 tie. (Maryville won the penalty kick shootout 4-2, which would give the Red Rebels a tiebreaker advantage in District 4-3A Tournament play if needed. Jonathan Moreno, a junior, and Charlie Sorochan, a sophomore, scored shootout goals for the Admirals (4-1-1 overall). MHS was 5-6-1.
“They woke up and they fought; good growth,” FHS head coach Bradley Culbreth said. “... Both teams left it out there. That’s what we want. That’s what makes it fun. It wasn’t a dirty game.”
