Run-rule revenge for Lady Admirals softball vs. Heritage
When Farragut High School’s softball team played Heritage on the road Friday, April 5, the Lady Mountaineers scored a decisive 8-2 District 4-4A win.
The Lady Admirals’ opportunity for revenge came Friday, April 12, at Bellamy Field — and as the cliche says, “revenge is sweet.”
Ava Barnes hit two home runs, Emma MacTavish was solid in relief and FHS’s seven-run sixth inning ended the game with a 13-3 run-ruled win.
“We put some good at-bats together today and it was a good redemption game,” FHS head coach Nick Green said.
Starting the week 14-7 overall, 5-2 in district, Farragut led 1-0 in the second on a solo home run from Barnes, but the Lady Mountaineers tied it in the third.
The Lady Admirals put up four in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by Elsa Morrison, an RBI double by Hailey Nichols and a sac fly from Laney Shrader.
With one out in the third, McTavish, a senior, came on in relief of freshman starter Hudson Bradford and struck out five of the first six batters she faced.
In the fifth, MacTavish gave up consecutive home runs to Izzy Hayes and Portlyn Bennett, and Heritage was back in the game, down 5-3.
For the game, MacTavish went three and two-thirds innings. She had six strikeouts and a walk. The home runs were the only hits she yielded.
“She (MacTavish) came in good,” Green said. “We were using Hudson as the opener … see how many she could go.”
Up 6-3 after five, the Lady Admirals blew it open with a huge sixth inning. With two on and one out, Barnes’ second home run was a three-run shot to center. Later in the inning, Rilee Kate Ragan’s two-run homer made it 12-3.
The game ended when Morrison’s line-drive hit brought in Anna French from third. “We executed when we needed to and we really just played together; that’s what I’m gonna focus on,” Morrison said.
