3 champs, a 2nd for Farragut chess
Farragut schools’ students racked up the winnings during 2024 Harry D. Sabine State Team Tournament held in Lenoir City High School Saturday, March 23.
“Farragut primary, elementary and middle schools all won the championship,” said Qiang Zhang, president of Rocky Top Chess Club. “Farragut High School won second place.
“This is a historic time, since Farragut schools never had so great a record,” Zhang added.
Organized by Tennessee Chess Association, there were 12 teams in the Primary Level, 16 in Elementary, 12 in Middle and 16 in High School Level.
At the Primary Level, Farragut Primary School’s team, PR Dragons, scored 3.0. They consisted of Chloe Dong, Jason Xu, Joyce Hu, Michael Gui and Sophia Fan.
In the elementary level, the FPS Fighting Intel team, with a 4.0 score, featured Vivian Lodha, Elsa He, Brian Liu, Ridhaan Lodha and Ryan Chen.
Farragut Middle School’s JH Future Mas team, with a score of 3.0, featured Bochen Jiang, Yi Sun, John Nguyen, Jason Zhang, Selena Ma and Jason Hu.
Farragut High School Admirals team, with a score of 4.0, consisted of James Nguyen, Stephen Xiao, Maggie Zhong, Jared Li, and Ruhaan Singh.
