Cassity reflects on dual Farragut tennis mastery
With Gordon Cassidy’s Farragut High School boys tennis team getting over the hump and winning the District 4-AA Tournament this year, then dominating Knoxville West to win the Region 2-AA title, “The boys team was very strong from top to bottom,” he said.
These Ads fell to Science Hill in the Sectional 4-1, one match win short of state.
“The team was lead by top six players Benji Cho, Leyton Lu, Daniel Morgan, Moksh Patel, Derek Diaz and Parker Fitzgrald. We did not lose a district match this year,” Cassity added.
Individually, Lu was district singles champion.
Girls stayed dominant
Led by the coach’s granddaughter, senior and two-time defending Division I-AA singles champ Riley Cassidy, the 2024 FHS girls were “the best team I have ever had from top to bottom; they have not lost district or regional in four years,” the coach said.
However, his girls lost again in the state sectional to Tennessee High (Bristol).
“We had great play from the top six players: Riley Cassity, Michelle Lin, Iris Ye, Isha Patel, Ella Ye and Alexandra Vallova,” coach Cassidy said. “My top three are seniors, but the remaining girls … played a lot this year and will help next year.
“A big match win this year was in the last match of season, as Isha Patel schooled the Tennessee High girl in her (sectional) match,” the coach added. “A great win for Isha.”
Riley Cassity began her attempt to threepeat in state singles this week (first match after deadline Tuesday, May 21).
