• Jerry Harnish, previously Rural Metro fire chief in Farragut, has taken on a new role as chief for both fire and Emergency Medical Services.

“This summer, we will transition, and I will do strictly EMS, and we’ll have a new fire chief,” Harnish said.

Currently, Jeff Devlin is in the role of interim fire chief.

“I think there was a need to have better coordination with EMS and fire, and certainly, with the new EMS contract, we’ve had a lot of improvements to make,” Harnish said.

He has been fire chief in Farragut since 2007.

About the change in roles, “It’’s a lot of work but very rewarding, so I’ve got to meet a lot of marvelous people. That’s the best part,” Harnish said.

His announcement about the role change took place during a Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce networking hosted by Rural Metro in Farragut Community Center to observe EMS Week (May 20-24).
