Special Letter to Editor candidate advocacy alert

Announcement that Wednesday, June 26, is the last issue in which a Letter to Editor could be published favoring a candidate seeking elected office (on the ballot through Thursday, Aug. 1), which would run in our Wednesday, June 26, issue.

There is a 600-word max, with no letter running that attacks any candidate. Deadline to submit is noon, Monday, June 24.

There is a minimum two-week period between the final published letters touting a given candidate and the beginning of Early Voting (Friday, July 12), with one exception:

Should such a letter (June 26) mention issues that his/her opponent(s) would consider reflecting negatively on their opponent, that candidate could respond in our Wednesday, July 3, issue only (no later).

Also, that opposing candidate herself/himself must be the one to respond — no campaign official, relative, supporter, etc — and the letter must ONLY clarify his/her position on the issue brought up by the opponent: no other issues or touting your candidacy would be allowed for expression.
