Tikiz ready to serve

Knox County residents Maretta and Paul Henegar have embarked on a new home-based venture, Tikiz Shaved Ice and Ice Cream, which they launched Thursday, June 27.

“It’s very exciting,” Maretta said. “We got our health permit today (June 27).

“We’re doing the Fincastle Methodist Church vacation Bible School (this week) in Lafollette, in honor of Paul’s mother,” she added.

The couple will be selling Hawaiian shaved ice, ice cream and coffee from a truck at events, such as birthdays, fundraisers, parties, churches, schools and companies for corporate picnics and other events.

“Wherever we’re invited,” Maretta said, adding they also can drive into neighborhoods if she has permission.

Shaved ice flavors include watermelon, tiger’s blood, strawberry, piña colada, lemon, grape, cotton candy, cherry, banana and blue raspberry.

Ice cream choices include fudge frenzy, creamy cotton candy, rainbow polar pole, sour swell cherry strawberry shortcake, vanilla sandwich, orange cream bar and chocolate shortcake.

The idea to open their first business venture was sparked a couple of years ago, when the Henegars started researching small businesses; but “having a storefront was going to be so expensive,” Maretta said. “We kept digging and found this (Boca Raton, Florida-based).”
