Murray new cross-country head, T&F assistant at Webb

Webb School of Knoxville recently announced Dan Murray as its new high school cross-country head coach/program director and assistant track & field/distance coach. Murray also will serve as a study hall proctor at the high school.

He comes to Webb from First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, where he served as cross-country and track & field head coach.

In his two-plus years at the helm, Murray guided his distance runners to five individual state titles, including victories at the 2023 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A Women’s Cross-Country Championship, indoor and outdoor state titles in 2023 in the women’s 3200-meter race, and NCHSAA state crowns in 2022 and 2024 in the men’s and women’s indoor 1,000-meter run.

Under Murray’s leadership, the First Flight Nighthawks have won multiple conference titles in cross country and track & field. Along the way, Murray was voted Northeastern Coastal Conference Coach of the Year seven times in three sports.

Murray was an assistant cross-country coach at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, South Carolina, where he helped lead the varsity boys to a runner-up finish at the state meet in 2021.
