One of Bank’s 4 Student Leaders is FHS grad Lin
KNOXVILLE — Bank of America recently announced Michelle Lin, a 2024 graduate of Farragut High School and a rising freshman at the University of Virginia, as one of four Knox County high school juniors and seniors “selected as Student Leaders, an eight-week paid summer internship connecting students to employment, skills development and service,” stated a press release from Bank of America, sponsor.
“These community-minded students will gain practical work and leadership experience and receive financial education coaching from Bank of America’s Better Money Habits curriculum, while working with The Knoxville Area Urban League and Muse Knoxville,” the release added.
At UVa, Lin “has a full scholarship as a Jefferson Scholar, majoring in economics,” the release stated. “With a passion for her community, Michelle uses her musical talents to give back to others by playing violin in nursing homes and hospitals.
“Her commitment to service also extends to her extracurricular activities as the first student from Tennessee to serve on Junior State of America’s National Cabinet as national chief of staff.”
Celebrating its 20th anniversary year, “the Student Leaders program recognizes 300 community-focused juniors and seniors from across the U.S. annually,” the release further stated. “Since 2004, Student Leaders has engaged more than 4,500 students and invested $42 million in more than 500 local nonprofits as a critical part of the bank’s long-standing effort to build pathways to economic mobility across nearly 100 markets.”
“Preparing a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students to be successful in the workforce is critical to Knoxville’s long-term economic growth,” said Terry Cline, president at Bank of America Knoxville. “The exceptional teens selected for the Student Leaders program will not only gain practical work and life experience, but the community in return gains from local nonprofits and helps to grow a diverse pipeline of talent ready to enter the workforce.”
