Tennessee’s DAR chapters, 94, including local Bonny Kate, tout ‘Patriots to Pioneers, the First Tennessee Volunteers’ recent book
A notable effort undertaken by the 94 Tennessee DAR chapters is their recently published book, “Patriots to Pioneers, the First Tennessee Volunteers,” which is a collection of stories of patriots who served in the Revolutionary War to gain U.S. independence and then became the founders and settlers of Tennessee, according to a press release.
Regent Christine Gordon, alongside several members of the Bonny Kate Chapter, NSDAR of Knoxville, presented seven copies of this book Friday, May 31m to Knox County Public Library, which was represented by Melissa Kelley, assistant director for Knox County Public Library’s Collections & Access Service, and Jamie Osborn, library reference service manager, in preparation and celebration of Tennessee Statehood Day Saturday, June 1. These copies were placed in Lawson McGhee, Carter, Bearden, Fountain City, South Knoxville, Karns and Farragut branches.
“The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, helped to fund this gift through America 250! Celebration Grants,” the release stated. “The 600-page volume features 372 documented and sourced Tennessee patriot stories, 300 additional proven Tennessee patriot names, beautiful full-color illustrations by renowned historical artist David Wright and others, as well as an introduction and overview of the history of Tennessee’s role in the American Revolution and its founding.
“The Tennessee Society is excited to make these stories of the Patriots and Pioneers of Tennessee available to teachers, librarians and students of American history in locations throughout Tennessee,” the release further stated.
As the Bonny Kate Chapter regent, Gordon also is a member of Knox County Council of Regents, comprised of five regent women, one for each Knox County chapter (Andrew Bogle, Bonny Kate, Cavett Station, Emory Road and Samuel Frazier).
KCCOR also donated a copy of “Patriots to Pioneers” to
a library official representing McClung Library Collection, which was presented to library manager Eric Dawson Thursday, May 30.
