FHS’s Neil Clabo, Ex-Ad, UT football star, Super Bowl XI punter, dies

Neil Clabo, one of Farragut High School’s top football talents and athletes of all time (Class of 1971) who went on to All-SEC punting success as a Tennessee Vol before being the Minnesota Vikings punter in Super Bowl XI, became a popular fixture at FHS as an in-school suspension supervisor/substitute teacher for more than 30 years. He died last week.

“Not only was he one of the best athletes ever to be at Farragut High School, but just had a great sense of humor and nature about himself,” said his long-time colleague, Eddie Courtney, a recently retired FHS teacher/football coach. “Everybody enjoyed being around Neil. It was just so sad to see how in the last few months he went down health-wise. ... He didn’t deserve that.”
