• Living between Virtue Road and McFee Road, I support the Turkey Creek Greenway extension. Like many others, we are isolated between two very short gaps in the greenway, including the dangerous curve near the bridge at the west end of Turkey Creek Road.
We would love to be able to walk or ride safely to get to the parks that our tax dollars support (Anchor, the Cove, McFee) and other amenities (schools, Davis Y, restaurants). Despite being so close, we can’t reach any of them without walking in the road, which will become even more dangerous with new development. Economic studies show that the presence of a greenway increases property values.
Nevertheless, a handful of property owners are litigating the extension along Turkey Creek. I urge Farragut residents to vote for Alderpersons who support closing gaps in the greenway.
• A huge thank you to all the women and men who work for the Town of Farragut for putting on such a fantastic July 4th Parade. Also, thank you to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, who kept everyone safe.
• On a recent trip to Kentucky, I was surprised to see a person at the welcome station promoting tourism for the Town of Farragut. (Town officials) have … said they want to reduce cut-through traffic from Choto and Lenoir City. Then why are they paying a person to bring people from Kentucky to Farragut?
On the subject of interconnectivity, that sounds great until you understand it means cut-through traffic going through neighborhoods instead of staying on Kingston Pike. Rush-hour traffic should not be routed through neighborhoods. That is not a solution. It is an admission that planning is not adequate.
We keep hearing how great the new traffic-light system will be; all that can control is flow. The problem Farragut has is a large increase in volume.
The solution is new lefthand turn lanes at Campbell Station Road and Kingston Pike.
Our planning doesn’t make sense.
