Reader praises Povlin for ‘passion, dedication’

Vice Mayor Louise Povlin is at the end of her second term as Alderman for the North Ward.

I want to say “thank you” for her time, hard work and refusing to give up, especially when she was being disparaged by those who felt they had the right to condemn her, both on a professional and personal basis, just because they did not agree with her.

“Thank you” seems inadequate for the compassion, support and dedication she has shown during her time as alderman and vice mayor.

Many residents, of which I was one, had lost faith in the Town of Farragut due to the actions of a previous administration who ignored our concerns, belittled our feelings and then sat back and forgot about us.

Vice Mayor Povlin encouraged us to reach out to her, the mayor and the other members of the Board and Mayor (Ron Williams) and Aldermen. She stressed repeatedly that the Town officials cared about what our community thinks, and that our opinions and questions are important to Town officials. And guess what, I found out it was true!

Over the past few years, both Vice Mayor Povlin and Mayor Williams encouraged me to attend Town meetings. So, I began attending the BOMA and FMPC meetings, and the Staff/Developer meetings. I have learned so much about how our Town is run, the whys and hows — and more.

I am so grateful for the day Vice Mayor Louise Povlin showed up on my doorstep with much needed information and a sincere offer of assistance.

As much as Vice Mayor Louise Povlin loves our community, I will not be surprised if her retirement is a short one.
