Spirit of Valley Marching Band got ‘great start’ to 2024 program

Hardin Valley Academy’s Spirit of the Valley Marching Band and camp found members learning new moves and a new show.

“We are off to a great start so far,” HVA band director Alex Rector said, noting this year’s show — details of which haven’t been disclosed to the public — is expected to debut in an upcoming performance still to be scheduled.

The community performance will be held in the HVA stadium.

The camp started Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, then continued Monday through Friday the next week, then Monday and Tuesday, July 29-30 at the school.

Drum majors are Aaron Curlee, Douglas King, Jacey Thomas and Erika Walker.  “We are right around 120 members this year and have grown from last year’s program,” the director said.

“We will competing locally, as well as traveling to the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, and BOA Regional Championships in Chattanooga and Johnson City,” Rector said. “Last year we won our class at the Karns Marching Invitational and were finalists at the BOA Chattanooga Regional.  This was our sixth BOA Regional Finals appearance.

“Our season ends Nov. 16 at BOA Grand Nationals,” he added.
