Law enforcement learning ‘takedown techniques’ at Knoxville Martial Arts Academy

Knoxville Martial Arts Academy has announced a unique, specialized seminar for law enforcement personnel, focusing on helping law enforcement master takedowns in real-world scenarios.

The seminar, which began Wednesday, Aug. 7, will be held starting at 4 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday for six weeks, offering an unparalleled opportunity for officers to train with professional fighters and enhance their skills in a controlled, safe environment.

“We’re thrilled to offer this seminar, utilizing our pro fighters to help teach takedown techniques,” Emilee King, KMAA’s seminar coordinator, stated in a press release. “These fighters can simulate the real-life situations that law enforcement officers encounter in the field, allowing participants to go beyond learning technique and master it under realistic conditions.

“Our head coach Eric Turner, who’s had over 30 fights in the UFC that he’s coached, will be leading this,” she further stated. “The seminar’s curriculum is designed to address a common challenge in law enforcement training: the gap between drilling techniques and applying them in high-pressure situations.

“You can drill the same thing over and over in martial arts; but as soon as you go live, it doesn’t seem to work. This seminar bridges that gap by providing officers with the opportunity to practice work live, experiencing the adrenaline dump and intensity of real confrontations.”

The use of professional fighters in this seminar “adds a unique element, providing law enforcement participants with authentic, live scenarios that closely mimic the challenges they face on duty,” King stated. “This hands-on experience is crucial for mastering techniques that could make all the difference in the line of duty.

“KMAA invites all law enforcement agencies and departments to join this vital training program,” she further stated.
