• At 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, a complainant called KCSO East Precinct to report a check forgery, which occurred at 11201 Kingston Pike. The complainant, representing an area high school PTSO as a treasurer, said “she dropped a piece of mail containing a check into a U.S. Post Office dropbox located in the median across from Discount Tire.”
Complainant said she mailed a check for $2,463.90 on a First Horizon Bank account. According to the complainant, “when the check came into the bank for payment, the pay to order had been changed … and the amount was changed to $5,500,” the report further stated. “She said the check had been ‘washed’ because, even though the date was the same on the check, it wasn’t her handwriting. The complainant advised on the memo line she had invoice numbers … and now it’s blank. She (said) her signature was still on the check.
“According to the complainant, the $5,500 has been deducted from the PTSO account. The complainant said the bank told her the check had been mobile deposited into (another) account.
She advised the bank is supposed to put the funds back into their account.”
