Amendments recommended, FMPC to BOMA, unanimously with Future Land Use Map
Farragut Municipal Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen approve four amendments to its Future Land Use Map in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan during its Thursday, July 18, meeting.
The FMCP recommended changes to the following:
• Updating the land purchased by Knox County Schools off Boring Road for a new elementary school, currently Low-Density Residential, Very Low Density Residential and Open Space to reflect a Civic/Institutional land use designation and keeping the Open Space designation.
• Updating the land purchased by the Town of Farragut off McFee Road to reflect a Parks and Recreation land use designation and Open Space designation. Previously it was designated as Open Space Cluster Residential and Open Space. The area shown as Open Space is not proposed to be changed.
• Updating areas currently shown as Medium Density Residential and Low Density Residential south and east of the Eddy Ford property and Park Place subdivision to reflect a Very Low Density Residential land use designation.
• Updating the areas that currently are shown as Medium Density Residential along a portion of Concord Road to reflect a Low Density Residential land use designation in the northern portion and a Civic/Institutional land use designation for the Pleasant Forest Cemetery and the area abutting the cemetery to the north.
Regarding the last two amendments, “This is my last hurrah,” stated Vice Mayor Louise Povlin, also an FMPC member.
Term limited, her second term on BOMA will be up following Knox County Election Commission certifying voting results from the 2024 Town election — expected to happen Monday, Aug. 19 — allowing new North Ward representative Alexander Cain to take the oath and begin his service.
Povlin recalled she has been involved in the amendments process since 2017 to reduce density in those areas. “This has been a long haul,” she said. (See related story starting on page 2A)
Property disruption coming to Village Green
On another note, residents living in Village Green subdivision should expect some disruption on their properties within the next 60 days.
FMPC approved a project for Knoxville Utilities Board to replace existing 2-inch steel natural gas main lines with new 2-inch medium density polyethylene plastic gas main lines along various streets in Village Green subdivision.
“This item involves Phase 1 of a major gas line upgrade in the Village Green Subdivision,” Community Development director Mark Shipley said.
While the lines will be directionally bored, Planning Commissioner Jon Greene observed KUB still will be going on properties on the following streets: Russfield Drive, West and East Heritage Drive, Chowning Drive, Dominion Circle, Governors Lane, Nassau Drive, Village Green Parkway, Georgetown Drive, South Williamsburg Drive, Crofton Lane, Boundary Lane and a line extending to Boring Road.
“It’s a pretty big project,” Shipley noted. “They will be notifying property owners on the southern portion of Village Green.”
Greene emphasized, “Restoration is a priority for any damage to properties.”
