Fund set up to help FHS girl victim
While a Farragut High School female student remained hospitalized after being the victim of a vehicular hit-and-run late last week, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the family is receiving financial support.
The student, at University of Tennessee Medical Center, was waiting on a school bus at the intersection of Thornton Drive and Hughlan Drive, multiple media reports have stated, when the hit-and-run happened around 7:30 a.m. on the first day of school Thursday, Aug. 8.
“A passer-by noticed the female lying on the ground at about the same time the school bus arrived,” Kimberly Glenn, KCSO Communications director, was quoted as stating in an earlier report.
The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit “has identified a person of interest,” another KCSO report stated about a possible suspect. “The Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating, … At this time there have been no formal charges filed.”
Meanwhile, “to raise money to help this family with their immediate needs and upcoming medical bills,” as stated on a gofundme page made available to farrragutpress, a neighbor of the victim’s family is stepping forward to raise funds for medical expenses.
“If you’ve ever been to the emergency room then you know the costs are extensive,” it also was stated on the page. “The last thing this family needs to stress about is medical bills while their daughter convalesces from her injuries.”
As for updates on the student’s condition and any suspect news, “We will continue to update our Facebook page with any changes ...,” the report also stated.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with this student and her family,” stated Dr. Jon Rysewyk, Knox County Schools superintendent, in a KCS press release. “We can’t emphasize enough how important it is that drivers take care in the early morning and afternoon. ... I want to call on the entire community to aide us this year in keeping students safe during their commute ... .”
