1,137 locals without power for hours Monday night, early Tuesday

There were “1,137 customers” in the Turkey Creek Road area who found themselves without power — some for almost seven hours — early Monday night, Aug. 19, into early Tuesday morning, Aug. 20, when a tree fell, knocking down a Lenoir City Utilities Board pole according to an LCUB official.

Jeremy Walden, LCUB director of engineering and

operations, said a tree along Red Mill Lane near Turkey Creek Road fell on LCUB’s line and broke a pole, “which took out a device on our line that protects Turkey Creek, all that road down through there, so everything down Turkey Creek would have been out.”

The affected Turkey Creek Road customers spanned from Concord Road west to Virtue Road, Walden stated in a text. He said the tree’s falling might have been caused by moisture and/or “maybe some wind. ... Some of these trees — at the base of the root — they just fall over. It happens to us all the time.”

A resident living along Red Mill Lane, who reported the outage to farragutpress, stated in a text, “I do know all Kingsgate and Brixworth and Sailview (subdivisions) were out until 12:50 a.m.”

Walden said LCUB crews were called out at 7:45 p.m. and were finished around 1:45 a.m.
