KCHS, HVA, FMS have team champs

KNOXVILLE — Once again, many Farragut area cross country teams were at or near the top during annual Victor Ashe XC Classic, in Victor Ashe Park, Saturday morning and early afternoon, Aug. 31.

On the high school varsity level, Knoxville Catholic swept the girls and boys team championships, as the top three teams were in the same order for both genders: the Lady Irish finished at 63, followed by runner-up Hardin Valley Academy at 121 and third-place Farragut scoring 194.

The KCHS boys varsity finished with 61, followed by HVA at 78 and the Admirals with 127. Highlighting this race was individual champion Garrett Hawkins of HVA, a senior, edging senior Michael Haskin of Asheville, North Carolina, by just .02 seconds (15:45.73 versus 15:45.75).

At the Junior Varsity Boys level, it was the Hawks flying high, winning with 21 points. Farragut took second at 56, with Catholic third at 124.

Hardin Valley’s JV girls were the top local finisher, grabbing fourth place (70).

At the Middle School level, the Farragut Middle School girls edged out Hardin Valley Middle 92 versus 111. Webb School was seventh and West Valley took ninth.

FMS also was the top local Boys Middle School finisher, placing fifth (146), followed by Concord Christian School in seventh and HVMS taking 10th.
