Bearden Invitational: 2 wins for Lady Ads

BEARDEN — A prestigious annual tournament, the Bearden Invitational, is where the Farragut Lady Admirals soccer team got above water record-wise, improving to 3-2 on the still young season with a pair of victories.

First-half goals by Gabby Mendez and Leana Maier stood up in a 2-1 win against Father Ryan Saturday, Aug. 31. This triumph came a day after Jessie Burkhart’s team beat Lincoln County.

“Third game in three days in this heat that we’ve had (also a loss to Baylor School), so obviously legs are tired, but I think they did a great job coming out and trying to execute what we were doing,” coach Burkhart said. “We had to keep a rotation going, and each one came out and put forth their best effort. So I can’t complain about any of that.

“From the back, Kennedy (Dade), Rowan, and I’ve got Ada Becker and a couple of freshmen, Reagan (Louchart) and McKena (Bishop) coming in and playing in the backline, and they’re doing a really good job.

My midfield, they’re staying strong and solid, and they’re working,” the coach added.

“Then we’ve got a rotation of three front runners that are giving a lot of effort and pushing, and they’re just coming in and playing as hard as they can for 10 minutes, and then we cycle back in with another one.”
