Bouncing back, FHS volleyball dumps W-Blount
Farragut High School’s volleyball team led two sets to none at Maryville against the Lady Red Rebels Tuesday evening, Sept. 10.
But the Lady Ads lost the next three sets and a key District 4-AAA match.
Back in FHS’s Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium Thursday evening, Sept. 12, in another district match against William Blount, Farragut again won the first two sets — 25-20 and 25-14 — then lost the third, 25-19. The fourth set — a quick 25-10 match-clincher -— put to rest any worry about a repeat from two nights before.
The win improved the FHS record starting this week to 11-2 overall, 2-1 in district.
“I like how we fought back after the third set,” Lady Ads outside hitter Elsa Morrison said. “We talked about it as a team, that it was resembling Maryville. But we weren’t worried.”
“I knew we’d come back (in the fourth),” outside hitter Trinity Rye said. “Third set was a little rough — the injury and all that — but I thought we did good coming back and overcoming that.” The injury Rye referenced was to senior middle hitter Paisy White, who left the match in the third set with an apparent shoulder injury.
In the first set, Farragut jumped to a 7-2 lead, but WBHS fought back and led 18-17. An 8-2 final stretch by FHS gave them the set. The second set was all Lady Ads after building a 14-7 lead. Their dominant fourth set closed it out.
Morrison led the winners in kills with 19. Rye added 18.
Assists were in abundance: Morrison had 18, Bella Ekeler and Teagan Williams each contributed 17 and Rye got 15.
“... We have good team chemistry. Our team’s pretty solid right now,” said Morrison, a UT Lady Vols Softball commit.
