2nd HVMS bomb threat evacuation ... ‘7th-grade student charged’ with 1st one
HARDIN VALLEY — For the second time in less than a week, a bomb threat received that targeted Hardin Valley Middle School caused a temporary evacuation of all HVMS buildings around 8:30 a.m., Tuesday. Sept. 24.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Devise Unit examined the building, then gave the all-clear, with school resuming at HVMS later that morning.
Six days earlier, “On Wednesday (Sept. 18), we received word of a potential safety concern at Hardin Valley Middle School and evacuated the building as a precaution,” a Knox County Schools press release stated. “After an investigation by law enforcement and school security, students were cleared to return to the building.
“We appreciate our families’ patience and understanding and cannot emphasize enough that every threat is taken seriously,” the release further stated. “As always, we encourage families to take a moment and talk to their students about the dangers and consequences of making inappropriate and threatening comments. Students are facing serious consequences no matter their intent.”
“A seventh-grade student was charged with threats of mass violence and false reports,” Kimberly Glenn, Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, stated in a KCSO press release concerning the Sept. 18 threat. “Hardin Valley Middle School was locked down on (Wednesday), Sept. 18, 2024 ...
“The Sheriff’s Office Explosive Device Unit was dispatched, as well as (KCSO) Juvenile Detectives,” the release further stated. “(A) suspicious backpack was cleared by our Bomb Team and students were permitted back inside the building.”
No charges were reported at press deadline concerning the second HVMS threat/evacuation.
