• At 9:50 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, a victim/complainant reported he had rented a building to the suspect. Victim said when the suspect vacated the building, “they took items that were attached to the walls,” a Knox County Sheriff’s Office report stated. Items with a total value listed at $5,800 were wall-mounted gas manifolds ($5,000) and a wall-mounted TV ($600).
• At 10:37 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, a complainant called KCSO Teleserve Unit to report a scam at a Derby Run Drive residence. He advised on Wednesday, Sept. 18, “he saw a post for American Eskimo puppies on a Facebook group and sent the suspect a down payment via Apple Pay,” the report stated. He said he has sent $2,750 and was supposed to receive the puppies on Sunday, Sept. 22 “and discovered it was a scam when the communication stopped.”
• At 2:01 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, a complainant called KCSO Teleserve Unit to report a motor vehicle theft from UHaul, 10833 Kingston Pike. Complainant reported the suspect rented the vehicle (a 2019 GMC Savana) on Aug. 28, and was supposed to return it Aug. 29. Complainant advised they extended the return date to Wednesday, Sept. 4, “but that was the last time they heard from the suspect,” the report stated. Total value of theft was listed at $60,000.
• At 8:46 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, a complainant called KCSO West Precinct to report identity theft from a Glen Abbey Boulevard residence. Complainant advised he received a piece of mail on Thursday, Sept. 12, stating a credit card account with Capital One was opened using her birth name.
Complainant advised this is not her legal name, being changed several years back. “Complainant was advised by Capital One that the account was opened Dec. 16, 2023, and has a rotating balance of of $8,294,” the report stated. Complainant was advised by Capital One to file a police report and to file a report with Federal Trade Commission. Complainant also filed a report at www.identitytheft.gov
• At 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, a complainant called KCSO West Precinct to report theft from Publix, 11656 Parkside Drive. Complainant advised her cell phone was stolen from the counter at her work.
“Complainant said Publix does have video footage of the incident, but was advised they cannot release any information unless a detective asked for it,” the report stated. “At this time there are no known suspects.”
Total value of loss was listed at $1,200.
• Update to the previous report: on Tuesday, Sept. 24, a KCSO detective was able to obtain video from Publix along Parkside Drive. The video was from the self-checkout lane, where an older ... female and male went through the self-checkout lane.
The male appears to notice the iPhone sitting on the back of the checkout lane. “He appears to grab some paper from the back, puts it back, and then again retrieves it and pulls the cell phone from the bottom and places it in his pocket,” the report stated.
“Video shows the male looking around to see if anyone noticed anything,” the report further stated. “From the video, detectives were able to identify the male. ... The video then showed them going into the parking lot, where they entered what appeared to be a burgundy or brown Lexus.
“Research of (the suspect) showed he had recently updated his licence with a current address. Research of his address resulted in the address (being traced to) his parents.”
At 12:12 p.m., their vehicle was “heading eastbound on Parkside Drive from Campbell Station Road ...,” the report also stated.
The phone was stolen at 12:47 p.m.
