Strong Farragut, area XC state efforts at middle, elementary levels
KNOXVILLE — Local schools were well represented at Victory Ashe Park in Knoxville, the site for 2024 Tennessee Middle School and Elementary School Cross Country State Championship meets Saturday, Oct. 26.
In eight categories, Farragut-area middle school and elementary school teams produced one individual champion while 13 of these teams finished in the top 10, led by second-place finishes by Farragut Intermediate School in Elementary Junior Varsity Girls, Farragut Middle in JV Middle School Boys, Northshore Elementary varsity girls and NES’s junior varsity Third-place finishes, statewide, came from Hardin Valley Middle School JV Girls, Rocky Hill Elementary in JV Boys and Northshore Elementary JV Girls.
Area individual state champ was fifth-grader Serephina Kapaya of St. John Neumann Catholic School (5:44.45), helping SJNCS Elementary varsity girls to a ninth-place team finish in the 1-mile run. FIS finished eighth as a team at this level.
Elementary Varsity
Other top 10 finishers in Elementary Varsity Girls were Evelyn Misra, NES fifth-grader who finished sixth (5:59.26) and Hardin Valley Elementary School’s Brooklyn Harder, a fifth-grader placing ninth (6:02.22).
In Elementary Varsity Boys (1-mile run) team finishes, NES placed seventh and Rocky Hill ninth. FIS took eighth among Elementary Varsity Girls.
Individually, fourth-grader Bear Areheart of Concord Christian School placed third (5:28.35), while fifth-grade Myers Stagle of Blue Grass Elementary finished ninth (5:31.96).
Elementary JVs
Individually in Elementary JV Girls, Piper Porter, an FIS fourth-grader, earned second-place (6:47.30), while Annakate Gary, also an FIS fourth-grader, finished fifth (6:54.72). Sixth-place went to NES third-grader Grace Dickenson (6:57.28), followed by FIS third-grader Aubrey Martin placing seventh (7:00.17), NES third-grade Avery Allen grabbing eighth-place (7:05.33) and NES fifth-grader Keeton Lipsey finishing 15th.
Individually in Elementary JV Boys (1-Mile), NES fourth-grader Ethan Bisch was tops locally with a sixth-place showing (6:39.55), with Rocky Hill fifth-grader Clayton Davis right behind in seventh (6:46.60) followed by NES fourth-grade Cooper Without earning ninth (6:48.24) and third-grade teammate John Somerville placing 10th (6:49.03). Franklin Smith, Rocky Hill third-grader, finished 12th.
Other top varsity teams locally
Top finishes at the Varsity Middle School level (2-Mile), team-wise, found HVMS girls taking sixth and FMS girls eighth, while the Farragut Middle boys placed ninth.
Among Middle School JV Girls teams, FMS placed fifth.
