• As United Way of Greater Knoxville CEO Matt Ryerson has decided to pursue other professional opportunities, UWGK board of directors has accepted his resignation. Following a four-month search, Ryerson was hired in December 2019 and served as CEO of the organization for five years.
United Way of Greater Knoxville Chief Impact Officer Chrystal Armstrong Brown will serve as interim CEO as of Nov. 11, providing stability and continuity through this leadership transition.
• Morning Pointe Senior Living’s is preparing to open The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Hardin Valley Knoxville, in early 2025 and is accepting reservations at its new location, 433 Reagan Road.
It will become Morning Pointe’s 41st community and offers two specific levels of memory care, for early stages and for later stages.
The Lantern will feature 60 apartments with its two distinct levels of memory care, expanding the model of care.
These are Lamplight, a large area for residents with early-stage Alzheimer’s and dementia who are more active, and Lantern, a more intimate and quiet space designed for more advanced stages.
Several floor plan choices are available, including studios and companion two-bedroom apartments.

• U.S. Small Business Administration administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration and a voice in President Joe Biden’s Cabinet for America, representing more than 34 million small businesses, recently urged Americans to embrace the spirit of the holiday season by supporting local small businesses on Small Business Saturday, an annual event founded by American Express and celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024.
The event takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Nov. 30, and will be the kickoff of SBA’s 2nd Annual holiday campaign, the Season of Small Business.
“Small Business Saturday has become America’s call to action to support the backbone of our economy and heart of our communities – our small businesses,” Guzman said.
SBA’s Season of Small Business will continue through December and encourages consumers to support small businesses throughout the holiday season. During the Biden-Harris Administration, the United States has received nearly 20 million new business applications filed nationwide, driven mostly by women and people of color.
