OT loss to M’ville 1st by FHS boys
Farragut and Maryville fought tooth and nail for more than three quarters — with the Admirals catching up late in the first quarter after falling behind 8-0 — and went into overtime to settle the Melton Heating & Air Boys Thanksgiving Tournament championship game in FHS’s Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium on Donald Dodgen Court Saturday Night, Nov. 30.
Down the stretch in OT, the Red Rebels converted on a couple more key possessions than did the Admirals, as Farragut suffered its first loss of the season 60-55 (despite being District 4-4A rivals, this was not a district game).
“I’m proud of our guys; you go toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the state,” said FHS head coach JP Burris, whose team (5-1 entering this week) was led scoring-wise by senior wing Dom VanAcker with 18, followed by three Ads with 11 each: point guard Parker Lane, forward Britton Lewis and guard Dan Lanning. “As a team I thought we did a really good job defensively.”
Maryville was led by star guards Jonathan Woodlee (18 points) and Braden Hazelbaker (17), with post Luke Sigmund scoring 10.

In the semifinal round Friday, Nov. 29, the Ads again were dominant, this time overpowering Science Hill 63-45. Senior forward Bryce Howard led FHS by scoring a game-high 18 points. VanAcker was close behind with 16 while Lewis scored 13.
