Four wins collected during 1st FHS flag football season

York encouraged about the future, as team is young

Despite a 27-12 loss to Anderson County Monday night, Dec. 9, at home in Eddie Courtney Stadium on Bill Clabo Field, Farragut High School’s first season of flag football was encouraging on two fronts.

First of all, this team won four games despite limited preseason practices, given that head coach Cameron York assumed the job just a few days before the team’s first two games at Knoxville Central High School in early November.

Also, York will have all but three of his girls returning next season based on eligibility.

“I had a great time this season — I really enjoyed it,” York said with enthusiasm Monday night, as his Lady Admirals defeated South-Doyle, Gibbs, Austin-East and Career Magnet Academy in 2024.

Looking ahead, “For me it’s exciting because we have a team full of sophomores,” York said, also telling his team they will have more time to work on fundamentals before the 2025 season starts.

Flag football, by the way, is a Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association sanctioned sport, as Farragut will seek a playoff berth in 2025.

The team’s three seniors are Erika Benfield, Madison White and Keira Shafer.

Highlights versus ACHS

Among the FHS players to stand out versus Anderson County was Kambree Fontenot. The sophomore took a reverse handoff for 50 yards to set up the first Lady Ads touchdown — which was a 3-yard run by sophomore quarterback Harper Holmes — fired a 40-yard pass completion to Shafer, caught passes of 25 and 27 yards from Holmes and broke up two passes on defense — one that would have been a TD and the other one might have been. “She’s an X-factor and one heck of an athlete,” York said of Fontenot.

Shafer’s 15-yard touchdown catch from Holmes accounted for the other Farragut points.
