About 200 children, escorted by parents and grandparents, attended this year’s New Year’s at Noon holiday event, hosted by Town of Farragut’s Parks & Recreation Department, in Farragut Community Center Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Children enjoyed refreshments, designing their own party hats, having photos taken and playing games before the big moment when the 1,000 balloons, held up in a net on the ceiling of the gymnasium, were released over their heads.

Minutes before the release, children clammered around to find a spot under the balloons then counted down to 12 p.m.

Rachel Malone, Recreation & Event manager, said the event was created for children who cannot stay up until midnight to welcome New Year’s Day.
