Rescheduled CUMC Black History events
Due to inclement weather last week, Concord United Methodist Church rescheduled its WordPlayers’ Theatre Company performance of “Walk, Don’t Ride,” a part of its Black History Month celebration, to begin at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb, 26.
“This performance is recommended for ages 10 and up,” a CUMC press release stated. “A love offering will be collected that evening to support the WordPlayers Theatre Company, and childcare/children’s activities will be available for younger attendees.”
Two weeks later, the Rev. Harold Middlebrook will share his first-hand experiences as a pastor and leader during the Civil Rights Movement. That also begins at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 12.
A former pastor in Atlanta, Memphis and Knoxville, Middlebrook played an active role in civil rights organizations and was a close friend of Civil Rights legend the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. He was present at the Lorraine Motel in 1968 when Dr. King was assassinated.
All CUMC events and services are free and open to the public. Wednesday Community Care nights include children’s and student activities, and all worship services are family-friendly.
