Farragut High School’s softball team played consecutive games last Wednesday and Thursday, April 16 and

Against GCA, the Lady Admirals got a sterling pitching performance from Hallie Grace Johnson. The sophomore threw a complete-game shutout, yielding but two hits and striking out three. She walked two.

“Hallie Grace pitched a great game,” FHS head coach Nick Green said. “She only gave up a handful of hard-hit balls and we were able to make plays on them.”

Farragut took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning when Elsa Morrison hit a solo home run. The visitors added two more in the sixth when Dajah Means led off with a single, followed by a walk to Taylor Albright.

A double steal put the runners on second and third.

Logan Jameson’s grounder

to second scored Means.

Rylee Raby then doubled, scoring Albright.

FHS was opportunistic in the game, drawing eight walks and stealing eight bases. They also held Grace to no runs in the third after the Lady Rams loaded the bases with no outs.

Still, Green would have liked to see more runs driven in. “Our biggest struggle all year has been driving in runs,” he said.

The non-district win improved the Lady Admirals’ record to 21-7.  “Pleased that we played much better, considering we had a rough week,” Green said. “Much better job than earlier in the week.”

Karns 10 Farragut 8

Against Karns, the Lady Admirals weren’t without their opportunities.

“We left a lot of kids on the bases,” Green said. “Not getting that big hit to blow it open or get on top of Karns.”

The Lady Beavers led 3-0 after their first at-bat, and 6-1 after they batted in the third. Farragut cut it to 6-2 in their half of the third, then scored two each in the fourth and fifth to tie it. “We fought the whole game and chipped away and tied it,” Green said.

The Lady Admirals’ runs in the fourth came on a throwing error after a pair of walks. FHS tied it in the fifth when Morrison’s two-run homer followed a walk to Raby.

But Karns answered right back in the sixth with four runs. The big hit was a three-run shot by third-baseman Yuleesa Kennedy.

Jade Buckner’s line drive to Kennedy with a runner on base in the seventh inning ended the game.

“The first three innings we were impatient at the plate,” Green said. “We swung at pitches out of the strike zone. After that we had some good at-bats.”
