Big inning, 5 pitchers fuel Ads at CAK, 8-2

WEST KNOXVILLE — A five-run third inning, highlighted by Owen Stelzer’s three-run homer and aided by two errors, and the combined efforts of five Farragut pitchers resulted in an Admirals victory at Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Starter Corey Cole gave FHS two innings while relievers Cash Shroeder, Joey Ray, Connell Driver and Benny Miller combined to allow the home team just two earned runs and seven hits in an 8-2 Ads win Saturday afternoon, April 19.

About his pitchers, Admirals skipper Garrett Copeland said, “You can’t ask for much more than what they did today. They competed in the strike zone and did a good job.”

Taking into account CAK’s defensive gifts in that pivotal third inning, “I think the final score wasn’t necessarily as close as the game was,” Copeland said.

“But I think we did a good job staying to the middle of the field and having a good approach at the plate, and we were able to take advantage of some things,” he added.

Braxton Tye smacked a seventh-inning solo homer, whileZane Kureshi-Smith, Neyland Williams, Travis Brummitt Jr. Braden Humphrey and Jackson Zeller also had singles for the Admirals. Aidan Flagg added an RBi groundout.

The Warriors got a leadoff first-inning homer from Tyler Bennett, one of his two hits, and a sixth-inning RBI single from Joey Sulish, who also doubled. Chip Shelton, Seaton Moffett and Brody Waller also singled for CAK.

“Today wasn’t that bad,” CAK head coach Tommy Pharr said. “We made three errors. ... We helped them and they made us pay, which is what they’re supposed to do.

“But all in all, I thought it went Ok for us today.”

The Ads improved to 21-7 while remaining 7-2 in District 4-4A. CAK fell to 23-7 overall, and are 8-2 in its district.
