Defense, pitching
keeps Lady Ads atop 4-4A; region is next

With strong defense and the continued dominance of sophomore ace pitcher Hallie Grace Johnson, the Lady Ads (28-10-1) whipped Maryville 5-1 in the championship game Thursday evening, May 8, at WBHS.
“Hallie Grace has been so dominant at the end of the season right here,” coach Green said of Johnson, who has allowed just one run in her last four starts. “She had a great night at the plate, too, with a two-run double” among her three RBI versus Maryville.
“We played outstanding defense again,” the Farragut head coach added. “And we came through with some big hits in this game.”
Johnson’s defense “is so key to me; I love each and every one of them,” the sophomore ace said. “They all bring something different to the plate.”
Moreover, “I know that if I mess up a little bit — if I leave a ball over the middle of the plate — they’re always going to be behind me,” she added.
Overall, “I’m really proud of everybody; we’ve come a long way,” said Ava Barnes, senior first baseman/DH and the team’s No. 2 pitcher.
