‘Spads’ does it again, this time in Freedom Run 1-Mile

Only a freshman last May, Lucas Spadafora came through under enormous pressure to help his Farragut High School track & field team win a Division I-AA state title thanks to his contribution as a leg in the first-place 4 X 400 relay — the meet’s last event — to nose out Memphis Whitehaven in this relay, and in the final meet total, by just one point.

Spadafora, 15, carried his winning ways into annual Farragut Freedom Run 1-Mile as overall Male Open Winner (4:58) on Independence Day Friday morning, July 4, running mostly along Kingston Pike and ending in Farragut Towne Square.

Upon crossing the finish line, “I felt I had a little more left in the tank,” Spadafora said. “Overall, it was a pretty good race. … I like the course, it’s pretty flat and super short.

“It’s feels great to run it,” he added.

Saying he’s participated in the Freedom Run 1-Mile each year since its inception, this was Spadafora’s first time as a top finisher.

Top 1-Mile overall Female Open Winner was Megan Bell, 36 (6:11).

Overall Male 2-Mile event champ was Quinn Deguira, 20, (11:45), while Bailey Ann Smith, 14, captured overall Female Open Winner honors in 2-Mile (13.53).
