Farragut, HVA, CAK ready for openers

High school football season is here.

Area teams had their final tune-ups late last week at pair of jamborees.

On Friday, Farragut, Hardin Valley Academy and Bearden were in action at Farragut High Schools Bill Clabo Field in the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic Kickoff Classic and the teams had mixed results in 12-minute scrimmages.

The Bulldogs were the first area team to take the field Friday night and they notched a 7-0 victory over South-Doyle.

Bearden scored the lone touchdown of the game against the Cherokees as quarterback Aidan Thacker connected with Tyler Tummins on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Thacker finished 3-for-3 with 51 yards and one touchdown pass.

He was one of two quarterbacks that head coach Brad Taylor used in the one-quarter scrimmage.

Logan Carpenter, a transfer from Cocke County, also made an appearance against the Cherokees. He was 2-for-3 through the air and amassed nine yards.

Taylor, who begins his second tenure as Bearden’s head coach in 2025, said that he’s been pleased with the progress with both quarterbacks during the preseason.

“Both quarterbacks have done a great job and we’re probably going to use both of them throughout the year,” Taylor said.

On defense, Paxton Parrott had an interception for the Bulldogs, who open the 2025 season Saturday at Knoxville West. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bill Wilson Field and the game will be regionally televised.

Farragut 7, Knoxville West 7: The host Admirals were coming off a full scrimmage when they took on the Rebels.

“We’re here at home in front of our home fans. We got a lot of kids in tonight.”

Starting quarterback Corbin Hobson didn’t play much but he did complete a 16-yard strike to Anderson Glover before he was relieved by Kyle Clark, a sophomore, who completed 3-of-5 passing attempts and amassed 25 passing yards.

The Admirals play defensing Class 5A state champion Sevier County at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
