Farragut High School soccer is off to a fast start

Powell – Farragut High School is off to a fast start in 2025 but third-year head coach Jessie Stephens Burkhart is far from satisfied.

The Lady Admirals played two road matches and recorded a pair of shutouts over Heritage and Powell.

But Burkhart made it no secret that she’s looking for more after Farragut defeated Heritage, 4-0, in Maryville on Tuesday, Aug. 19, and blanked Powell, 2-0, at Powell Middle School on Thursday, Aug. 21.

“I don’t think we played particularly well in either game but I think our girls were resilient and showed perseverance to get themselves out of some situations that they got themselves into early,” Burkhart said. “I’m proud of their perseverance and anytime you get goals and clean sheets, you do some good things and we’ll take it.”

In Thursday’s match in Northwest Knoxville, Farragut got a pair of goals from sophomore Ava Upshaw. The first was an unassisted maker and EC Johnson was credited with a helper on the second marker of the match.

In goal, Emery Wylie recorded her second shutout of the season.

The Lady Admirals (2-0) opened the 2025 campaign with a road match at Heritage. They shut out the Lady Mountaineers, coached by former Knoxville Central head coach Chris Quinn.

In that match, the Lady Ads also looked sluggish over the first 40 minutes of the match.

“We won, 4-0, but we didn’t play well in the first half,” Burkhart said.

Rowan Unger scored twice and dished out an assist for Farragut against Heritage, while Ava Barczak and Reagan Louchart also found the back of the net for the Lady Admirals. Johnson, Upshaw and Unger each had an assist in the match.

The Lady Admirals will face a set of difficult matches this week. They opened the week with a match at Webb School of Knoxville on Tuesday but results against the Lady Spartans, the 2024 Division II-AA state runners-up were not available at press time.

Farragut was set to play defending Class AAA state champion Germantown Houston on Thursday at the Bearden Invitational. The Lady Admirals play Station Camp on Saturday at Bearden. After being a Class AAA power, Station Camp is now a top team in Class AA.

“We have a gauntlet (this week),” Burkhart said. “Pick your state poison if you’re us.”
