Bearden High School volleyball recap

Several weeks ago, a match-by-match synopsis of Bearden High School’s volleyball season appeared in the farragutpress.

A brief look at the matches since then, with comments by head coach Eric Boden.

Sept. 4: 3-0 win over Karns. “We got to get a lot of people in that match, which was good. Trying to get some of our young kids some experience.”

Sept. 9: 3-1 win at Maryville. “We did some things well in that match. We blocked incredibly well. Executed the game plan to the fullest.”

Sept. 11: 3-0 win over Lenoir City. “Really controlled the match. Got people in that we wanted to.”

Sept. 12-13: 5-2 at the Rocky Top Classic, in Sevierville. “”We competed at a really high level. We lost to the team that won it all.”

Sept. 15: 3-2 win at Anderson Co. “Nice job in that match, with it being away, tough opponent, tough environment. Lost sets two and four, but we rebounded.”

Sept. 16: 3-0 win at West. “Really good test for us. West has been successful this year. For us to beat them 3-0 in their own gym … we just did things right. We were physical, we controlled our side of the net.”

Sept. 18: 3-0 loss to William Blount. “We struggled. There were runs they went on that really hurt us. They served tougher than we did.”

Sept. 23: 3-1 loss to Farragut. “That’s a match we wanted back. We learned from that match and I think it’s gonna make us better in the postseason.”

Sept. 25: 3-2 loss to Bearden. “We were up 2-1 in sets and 18-11 in the fourth and lost 25-23. Another one we want back. We had been strong but William Blount changed the momentum. We needed to rebound against Bearden and Farragut and just didn’t do it.”

Sept. 29: 2-0 win at Powell. “We were pretty dominant. We could see them in the Region so to have that type of performance was exciting. This week the focus is momentum going into the postseason”

Oct. 2: 3-0 over Jefferson Co. “We served tough, passed well, and established our middles early. Good win to send our seniors out on.”

Boden was asked to assess the regular season, which finished 15-10. “There have been moments where we showed our true potential as a team,” he said. “And there have been times where we’ve shown some big opportunities for growth. We scheduled a tough regular season to prepare us for the postseason.”

The Lady Hawks will graduate four seniors, three starters. Boden is confident about the future.

“The pieces we have coming up we’re excited about,” he said.
