Lady Ads kick off postseason with a win

After earning the No. 4 seed in the District 4-AAA Tournament, the Farragut High School girls soccer team opened postseason play on Saturday afternoon.

And for the second consecutive year, the Lady Admirals began the district tournament with a victory over Maryville.

Farragut notched a 2-0 victory over the Lady Rebels at Farragut Soccer Stadium.

This marked the second consecutive year the Lady Admirals blanked Maryville to open postseason play. FHS eliminated the Lady Rebels with a 1-0 victory in last season’s district tournament.

Farragut also defeated Maryville, 4-0, earlier this season, but Lady Ads’ coach Jessie Stephens Burkhart said nothing in the district ever comes easily.

“Everything in our district is hard, hard, hard,” Burkhart said. “We played well (in the tournament quarterfinals).

“(Goalkeeper) Emery Wylie had a clean sheet.”

Emma Claire Johnson and Kennedy Dade had the goals in the match for Farragut, which advanced to Tuesday’s elimination semifinal and will face top-seeded Knoxville West. Results were not available at press time. West and Bearden split the regular-season league championship.

The two rivals played to a 0-0 draw this year. The Lady Rebels earned the top seed by virtue of a tie-breaking coin flip.

West defeated Farragut, 2-0, in the regular-season meeting at Bill Wilson Field, and Burkhart said she expected the match to be yet another hard-fought battle.

“It will be tough because they’re not going to take us lightly and we’re not going to take us lightly,” Burkhart said. “I fully expect that it will be a good game.”
