Cookeville — A two-game winning streak came to an end for the Farragut High School football team last week.

The Admirals opened an early lead against the host Cavaliers at Cookeville, but the home team would storm back to nab a 30-13 victory in a non-region tilt Friday night.

Farragut (2-6) led early as it scored the first six points of the contest. The Admirals pulled ahead 3-0 when kicker Ryan McCue converted a 29-yard field goal attempt.

He later would add a career-long 50-yarder to make the score 6-0 and the Admirals appeared poised to continue their winning ways.

But Cavaliers’ running back Blake Barrett had other ideas.

Barrett, who had 232 rushing yards on scored three touchdowns on 19 carries, tied the game with an 18-yard touchdown scamper. Gavin Lentz kicked the extra point, making the score 7-6.

And from there, the Cavaliers (2-6) never trailed again.

Cookeville’s defense posted the game’s next score as

Lentz intercepted a pass from Corbin Hobson and returned it for a touchdown, extending the Cavaliers’ advantage to 14-6.

Barrett continued to be a nightmare for the Farragut defense as he would add two more long touchdown dashes, both covering 60 yards.

Sandwiched in between Barrett’s two touchdown scampers was Farragut’s lone touchdown of the contest, which came on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Hobson, who was

16-for-30 through the air

for 163 yards with one touchdown and one interception, to Max Garfield.

Lentz’s late field goal closed out the scoring in the game.

Farragut head coach Geoff Courtney said his team made some positive plays but noted the Admirals had too many mistakes.

“We made some good plays but we just didn’t make enough of them,” Courtney said. “We had too many self-inflicted mistakes.

“We did make enough winning plays and we didn’t play well in the second quarter.”

Things won’t get any easier for the Admirals this week as they have a short turnaround. Farragut will host Oak Ridge Thursday night in its final home game of the 2025 season.

Kickoff between the Wildcats (8-0) and the Admirals is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bill Clabo Field. The game will be regionally televised as the week’s Rivalry Thursday game.
