Museum Committee to recognize Veterans’ Day
Farragut Museum Committee is hosting a Veterans’ Day Observance to recognize veterans around Veteran’s Day.
The event is set to take place 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Boardroom of Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive. It is a free event that is open to the public.
“We’re excited and honored to be able to present different views of the military officer experience,” said Town Parks and Recreation director Ron Oestreich, who is the staff representative for the Museum Committee. “It’s important for us to continually recognize the service of those who have made great sacrifices to protect our country.”
Moderated by Buzz Buswell, director of Veteran and Senior Services for Knox County, attendeees will have an opportunity to hear from a panel of veterans, all from the Farragut area, in a panel discussion, said Town director of Public Services Chris Sheffield, a U.S. Air Force veteran who also will sit on the panel.
“Mr. Buzzwell or the audience can ask questions of these veterans,” Sheffield said. “They’ll just talk about our experiences and just answer questions.”
Joining him on the panel are Farragut High School principal Dr. John Bartlett, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran; Beverley Hammond, a U.S. Army veteran; and Jason Simon, a U.S. Navy veteran.
Also, “our Museum Committee will have the museum open for refreshments and a chance for folks to walk around and check out the Farragut Museum,” Sheffield said. “There’s Adm. (David Glasgow) Farragut, a military figure who’s larger than life here in Farragut.”
“There’s a lot of stuff about him in there and there’s stuff about the Civil War era in displays in our museum, so folks can come out, listen to some local veterans and experience our museum that day,” he said.
