Ads come up short at Fulton
But so do the Farragut Admirals, who battled back from a double-digit deficit while pushing Fulton to the brink last Wednesday inside Jody Wright Arena.
Unfortunately for the Ads, that push was not quite enough as they lost to the Falcons 62-57 on Feb. 11.
Farragut whittled a 13-point deficit down to two, 48-46, off a layup and free throw by Britton Lewis with 6:16 to play. But the Falcons responded with a 13-5 run, stretching a lead that withstood one more Farragut push with less than two minutes to go.
“We had our opportunities, just couldn’t get over the hump,” Farragut head boys basketball coach J.P. Burris said. “Had some really tough breaks go against us. I mean, we cut it to two possessions and even one but had some things go against us. We can only control what we can control.”
The Admirals did see a bright spot in Matthew Dickens, who led the team with a career-high 23 points.
It would have been an impressive outing any day, but especially less than 24 hours after Dickens scored just two points against McMinn County.
“It was my birthday yesterday and I only had two points, so that lit a fire under me,” Dickens said. “Just playing with a little emotion.”
That fire drove Dickens throughout the night, as he brought the Admirals within single digits in the first half. Later in the game, he kept hitting 3-pointers to give FHS a chance.
“Matthew was really frustrated with how he played (Tuesday), so he was the spark we needed,” Burris said.
“I thought we did well in the second half, but we were dead in the first half after playing a game yesterday too,” Dickens added.
After losing to Fulton, the Admirals wrapped up the regular season at McMinn Central on Friday.
