Bulldogs Capture Early-Season Victory at Karns Invitational

Bearden High School’s boys track and field team picked up an early-season meet victory on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the Karns Invitational, an event that featured some of the area’s best teams and athletes.

Bearden had multiple placers in several events of the meet.

The Bulldogs had three top-10 finishers in the 400-meter dash, including champion Grayson Haun, who crossed the finish line in 52.86 seconds. Xander Sieber was seventh (56.02), while Ken Sandoval came in ninth (57.50)

Graydon Beckner won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.40 and Aidan Wolverton finished fourth (17.39).

Bearden boasted three top-5 finishers in the 300-meter hurdles. Evan Fisher was the winner (41.54). Beckner took second (46.00) and Levi Johnson claimed third with a time of 46.89.

The Bulldogs 4x100-meter relay teams finished third and sixth respectively, while Brooks Ruth was runner-up in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 8.95 seconds).

Cooper Jones won both the high jump and long jump. He posted a leap of 6 feet, 3 inches in the high jump and came up with a mark of 20-3.75 in the long jump.

Mouhammed Seck won the triple jump (43-5.00) and finished ninth in the long jump (17-5.50). Mac Rago was third in the triple jump (35-9.25).

Tate Bourgoyne was ninth in the discus (101-7.50), while Wolverton was 10th (96-11.00).

Bearden coach Matt Eckert was pleased after the meet.

“I think with our boys, we have a well-rounded team,” Eckert said.

The Lady Bulldogs came in fourth as a team at Karns on Saturday, despite having just 10 athletes.

“We finished fourth with just 10 girls,” Eckert said. “In every event, we have five or six out there and we’re working hard.

“That’s pretty much our whole team because we’ve added lacrosse and flag football.”

In the 100-meter dash, the Bearden girls had four top-10 finishers. Lily Johnson came in third (12.90). Antonia Magnuson came in fourth (13.11). Erza Rafona was eighth (13.40), while Landon Rudolph took ninth (13.47).

Johnson was third in the 200-meter dash (27.76), while Magnuson took fourth (27.89).

Brielle Pickett finished second in the 800-meter run as she posted a time of 2:38.40). She also won the 3,200-meter run (12:23.59).

Riley Dixon was third in 3,200 (15:15.74) and 10th in the 1,600 (7:08.11)

Mia Smalley finished fourth in the 3,200 and ninth in the 1,600.

Johnson finished third in the long jump (15-3.25). Afton Cruze was third in the 400 (1:03.24).

Peyton Dial won the discus (102-5.00) and finished third in shot put (29-11.00).

Both Farragut teams also competed at Karns on Saturday.

For the Lady Admirals, Anabelle Wray was second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.83) and ninth in the shot put (25-4.50).

She was one of four top-10 finishers in the 400. Ava Brinley was fifth. Clara Wothe was sixth and Elin Rotan came in seventh (1:06.42). Rotan was also sixth in the 200-meter dash (29.05).

Samantha Souther was second in the 3,200-meter run (13:39.21) and fifth in the 1,600-meter run (6:12.30).

Brinley also won the 300-meter hurdles, while Kendall Austin came in fifth. Austin was ninth.

Ada Baker was second in the long jump (15-10.00).

For the Admirals, Jakob Ovalles was second in the discus (130-8.5) and third in the shot put (42-00).

Anders Kofoed was second in the 3,200-meter run (10:47.06), while Lucas Spadofora won the 800-meter run (2:01.33).
