Jerrell named HVA salutatorian
The salutatorian, Jerrell, the son of Matt and Brandy Jerrell, plans to attend the University of Tennessee, where he will major in chemical engineering and minor in Chinese. His goal is to be a chemical engineer.
At HVA, “I really enjoyed high school because I was able to be a part of many different clubs and found a really close group of friends,” the senior said. “My teachers and counselor were also incredibly supportive and were always there when I needed help, which helped grow my confidence and guide me to what I want to do next.”
While in high school, Jerrell participated in the pole vault, hurdle and sprint on the track team. He is the pole vault freshman school record holder and was All-State for pole vault.
He also is president of Mu Alpha Theta, co-founder and treasurer of the Travel and Culture Club, a member of HVA’s Science Bowl team, National Honor Society, Asian Student Alliance, Fellowship Christian Athletes and, last year, the Boys Volleyball
Club.
The valedictorian and her family asked for her not to be featured in the newspaper.
