Local schools to represent at state track championships

Three area public high schools will be heavily represented at the TSSAA Class AAA State Championships at the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track.

The meet will be contested May 19-20, in Knoxville.

Farragut High School had several multiple event qualifiers emerge from the East Tennessee Sectional Meet last week at Hardin Valley Academy.

The Lady Admirals Peyton Edmunds won the sectional pole vault championship as she posted an effort of 10 feet. Zoi LeCours finished fourth in the girls 3200-meter run as she crossed the finish line in 11 minutes, 25.21 seconds.

Farragut’s boys team member Chase McAvoy, who will compete in the State Decathlon this week at Hardin Valley Academy, won the high jump with a leap of 6-8. He was fourth in the long jump (21-8). He also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.04 seconds.

The Admirals had a pair of sprinters qualify in the 400-meter dash. Lucas Spadafora finished second (49.08) while Nathan Jacobs came in fourth (49.52).

Sam Shagan took third in the 3200-meter run (9:32.32).

Meanwhile, for Bearden, Cooper Jones finished second in the boys high jump (6-2) and the long jump (22-2). Mouhamed Seck finished second in the triple jump (44-4.5).

Evan Fisher took third in the 300-mmeter hurdles (39.58).

For the Lady Bulldogs, Lily Johnson finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.62) and Peyton Dial was second in the discus with a throw of 117-11.

Hardin Valley’s girls distance specialists had a big day on their home track.

Ana Berkheimemr won both the 1600-meter run (5:07.28) and the 3200-meter run (11:01.88), while Alexandra Vesser took second in both races.

Naomi Burum was third in the triple jump (35-4.5).

For the Hawks Nicolas Rivers won the 100-meter dash (10.54) and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (21.71).
