Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I am one of those that occasionally uses Boring Road to cut between Kingston Pike and Smith Road. It is not necessarily faster, just more pastoral and relaxing. I am concerned with the proposed permanent closure of Boring Road for several reasons.
One, if Boring is closed at KP, then presumably traffic will exit at Smith Road only. Are any Smith Road improvements being proposed? While KP is a 4 lane divided state highway, Smith is a two lane divided road feeding residential areas. This does not sound prudent especially if school-generated traffic immediately turns south and heads to KP anyway after turning off Boring at Smith.
Two, in the TOF CLUP are eight key strategies. Strategy #4 is Increase Connectivity. states in part, "It also improves the efficiency of school buses and emergency services and provides access when one entry may be blocked." So, not only does the approved CLUP show BORING connecting to KP, but the TOF proposal directly contradicts one of the eight strategies. Ironically, TOF is likely using this same strategy to justify encouraging traffic down Jamestowne from Campbell Station to KP.
I hope the proposal to permanently close Boring Road at KP will be reconsidered.
