Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I’m writing to express my disappointment with your coverage of the recent problems that have been disclosed regarding Alex Cain.
Your article in the June 17 issue of the Farragut Press reads as an op-ed defense from Mr. Cain and his attorney. It all begins with the headline “Cain rejects political attacks”. There is never any substantiation that his political opponents are responsible for the Knoxville News Sentinel article regarding his employment issues at Knox County Schools. If there’s evidence, report it.
Furthermore, you let Mr. Cain’s defense go completely unquestioned. The News Sentinel reporting is very explicit regarding his official reprimands. Your article allows him to make light of the original offense. He lumped the other 4 issues together, even though they involved two students and a teacher and extended over multiple years. You provided his explanations of his behavior without raising any questions, even though they are inconsistent with the News Sentinel’s reporting of the facts. If there’s evidence to challenge the News Sentinel’s reporting your readers deserve to hear it.
As editor it is your responsibility to ensure that articles are presented in a thorough, trustable, and unbiased way. This piece reads as an exoneration of Mr. Cain and an indictment of everyone else except Mr. Cain. Surely you can do better than this.
John Hoffman,
Farragut, TN
