Profile: Louise Povlin (Candidate for Mayor of Farragut)

I am running to be the next mayor of the Town of Farragut because I believe Farragut’s future should be shaped with the same care, common sense and community spirit that have made our town such a special place to live. We can welcome thoughtful progress while protecting our neighborhoods, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring residents are informed advocates for their concerns before important decisions are made.

Growth will continue in and around Farragut. Much of the remaining undeveloped land in our Town is already zoned for commercial, office or residential use; and we respect private property rights. I have a strong record of reaching out to residents directly impacted by new development to ensure their concerns are addressed. All future development should respect existing neighborhoods and protect our community character.

Traffic — both congestion and speeding — remains among Farragut’s most urgent quality-of-life issues. We need continued improvements to traffic signal timing, a thoughtful transportation plan for the Ford property, safer neighborhood streets through a consistent effort to curb speeding and appropriate investments beyond our borders.

I will champion a stronger communication plan for the Town. Residents should not have to search through layers of meetings and documents to understand what the Board and Planning Commission are considering. We should use every available channel — Town website, social media, HOA networks, temporary signage, and direct outreach - to provide clear, timely, accurate information so citizens can participate effectively.

Farragut is financially strong. We budget conservatively, carry no debt, maintain healthy reserves and continue to thrive without a property tax. That strength gives us the opportunity to take care of our existing infrastructure obligations: aging facilities, stormwater infrastructure, remaining substandard roads to improve, our trail/sidewalk network to complete, paving needs, parks, and recreation planning.

Local businesses are essential to Farragut’s character and success. We must attract the sales-tax-generating businesses residents want and that fit our long-term vision. By providing support through renovation/construction, better coordinating the work of the Chamber, Shop Farragut and Visit Farragut with the Town’s economic development efforts, we can support entrepreneurs from first idea through grand opening and long-term growth.

My commitment is simple: listen carefully, communicate clearly, plan responsibly and protect the character of Farragut while preparing for the future. I would be honored to earn your vote and work with you to keep Farragut strong, welcoming and well-managed for the next generation.
